Local Lead Generation

Lead Generation FAQs

Have questions about how our lead generation service works? Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions New Zealand tradies and service businesses ask before getting started.

General Lead Generation Questions

Lead generation is the process of connecting your business with potential customers who are actively looking for the services you provide.

For a local service business, this generally means receiving quote requests or phone enquiries from people who have a real need and want to speak with someone who can help.

A lead is a potential customer who has shown an interest in a service by submitting an enquiry or contacting by phone.

For the businesses we work with, this generally means someone looking for a quote, wanting to discuss a project or needing help with a particular service.

We work primarily with New Zealand tradies and service-based businesses where customers actively search online for a local provider.

This includes builders, concrete contractors, deck builders, fence builders, landscapers, roofers, septic tank services, tree care companies and other service businesses.

Yes. Lead generation can work well for sole traders and small teams, provided you have capacity to take on additional work and can respond promptly to new enquiries.

It can also suit established businesses looking for another source of customer opportunities.

Lead Quality and Exclusivity

Yes. Leads supplied through our service are sent to your business only.

We don’t deliberately sell or distribute the same enquiry to multiple competing businesses.

Customers may still contact other companies independently or request additional quotes, but the enquiry you receive from us is exclusive to your business.

A quality lead starts with genuine intent.

The customer has a real need, is actively looking for a relevant service and has taken the next step by submitting an enquiry or making contact by phone.

The best leads are also relevant to the type of work you provide and the area your business services.

No. A lead is an opportunity, not a guaranteed sale.

Whether the enquiry becomes a job depends on factors such as your pricing, availability, reputation, response time, customer requirements and how well the project suits your business.

Yes. Customers are always free to contact other businesses independently.

Exclusive means that we don’t deliberately distribute the same enquiry to multiple businesses. It doesn’t mean the customer is prevented from shopping around or requesting additional quotes.

Lead Volume and Service Areas

Lead volumes vary depending on your industry, location, seasonality, customer demand and the type of work people are looking for.

We don’t believe in promising a fixed number if it may not be realistic. We prefer to discuss your service area first and give you a clearer idea of what may be possible.

Yes. Our lead generation is focused on the areas your business actually services.

This may be a city, district or wider region depending on your business and the service you provide.

Potentially, yes.

If your business services multiple locations, we can discuss the areas you want to target and whether there is enough opportunity to support them.

Yes. Customer demand varies considerably between different services.

Some trades naturally generate more enquiries than others, and demand can also vary between locations and at different times of the year.

How the Service Works

Customers generally make contact by submitting a quote request or by phone.

Depending on the service, a quote request may include information about what they need, where the work is required and their contact details.

When an appropriate enquiry is received for the service and area you cover, it is passed through to your business so you can follow up directly with the customer.

You take over from there.

Contact the customer, discuss their requirements, ask any additional questions, arrange a site visit where necessary and provide a quote if the work is suitable.

As soon as reasonably possible.

Customers are often actively looking when they make an enquiry, so responding promptly gives you a better opportunity to start the conversation while their need is still current.

It can be worth trying again later or sending a text message where appropriate.

Not every customer will answer immediately, so making more than one reasonable contact attempt can help.

Cost, Value and Return

It can be, particularly when the value of the jobs you win comfortably supports the cost of acquiring new customers.

For many service businesses, one successful job can be worth hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

Look at more than just the number of enquiries received.

Useful measures include:

  • Customers contacted
  • Conversations started
  • Site visits completed
  • Quotes provided
  • Jobs won
  • Average job value
  • Revenue generated from the leads

This gives you a clearer picture of the overall value than judging each lead individually.

No.

The answer depends on your average job value and the cost of acquiring customers. For higher-value services, a relatively small number of successful jobs may be enough to generate a worthwhile return.

Not always.

If the average value of a customer is very low, the cost of acquiring new customers may make paid lead generation less practical.

That’s one reason we prefer to understand your business before deciding whether the service is a good fit.

Getting Started

Lead generation tends to work best when:

  • Customers actively search for your service
  • You have capacity for more work
  • You service a defined local area
  • Your average job value supports customer acquisition costs
  • You can respond promptly to enquiries
  • You want another source of new business

No.

Our role is to generate the opportunities and pass relevant enquiries through to your business. You don’t need to manage the lead generation campaign yourself.

No.

Many of the businesses we work with are sole traders or small teams. What matters more is being able to respond to enquiries, communicate clearly and follow up potential work.

We generally need to understand:

  • The services you provide
  • The types of jobs you want
  • The areas you cover
  • Your current capacity
  • Any work you don’t want to receive

From there, we can discuss whether lead generation is likely to be suitable.

Get in touch and tell us a little about your business.

We’ll discuss the services you provide, where you operate and the kinds of opportunities you’re looking for, then explain what the next step looks like.

If there’s something we haven’t covered, get in touch.

We’re happy to discuss your business, answer your questions and explain whether our exclusive lead generation servicecould be a good fit.
